Live Earth Concerts on 7/7/07
Event will be held in conjunction with Farmers' Market
The city of Lake Oswego will be hosting a once-in-a-lifetime music event - the 7-7-07 Live Earth Concerts - on July 7 in Millennium Plaza Park.
Held in conjunction with the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market, the event will tap into the Web cast of the globalwide 'Live Earth' concert series, followed by the Live Lake Oswego Show with performers Daniel Crothers and Friends and the Sandin Wilson Trio.
The all-day music begins when the Farmers' Market opens at 8:30 a.m. Live Earth concerts from Rio De Janeiro and Giants Stadium will be broadcast on a giant screen. After the big finale on the East Coast, at approximately 5 p.m., the local show begins.
Between musical performances during the 13-hour extravaganza, corporate sponsors, special guests and other supporting organizations will have time on stage to offer their perspectives on global warming.
'We are very excited to bring these free concerts to the public,' said Judie Hammerstad, mayor of Lake Oswego. 'Sustainability is an important issue that we are dedicated to addressing in practical ways. The Live Earth Concerts provide an opportunity to educate our citizens about global warming and how everyone can respond, including the city.'
There is a huge lineup of 150 music performers set for the July 7 event, playing at concerts around the globe, including Sydney, Australia; Shanghai, China; Johannesburg, South Africa; and London.
Performers will include AFI, Akon, Alicia Keys, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews Band, Fall Out Boy, Jennifer Lopez, John Mayer, Gilberto Gil, Kanye West, Kelly Clarkson, KT Tunstall, Lenny Kravitz, Ludacris, Melissa Etheridge, Rihanna, Roger Waters, Sheryl Crow, Smashing Pumpkins, Snoop Dogg and The Police.
Crothers, a Lake Oswego resident, is the founder of the non-profit organization Professional Artists for Positive Action (PAPA) and is supporting the presentation of the event in Lake Oswego as well as performing. Crothers is a composer of spiritual music and lyrics and is an activist in sustainability causes.
The Sandin Wilson Trio is a versatile jazz/funk band led by Sandin Wilson, a Northwest product who rose to fame with Quarterflash in the 1980s. Wilson still performs with Quarterflash and has appeared with many outstanding performers, including Tower of Power, Chaka Khan, Level 42, and Jay Leno.
Jean Baumann is serving as coordinator of the local concert. A Lake Oswego resident, Baumann has suspended her successful career as a leadership development consultant in order to work for Al Gore's Climate Crisis project and has been giving presentations about global warming throughout the Portland area.
Corporate sponsors of the 7-7-07 event include Charles Seaman of Oswego Luxury car dealership, Fred Breuer of FloorCo Hardwood Flooring, Judith Allan of the Oregon Natural Health Clinic, and Lori Fish of Buchic Bamboo Clothing.
There will be an information booth about the concert at the Lake Oswego Farmers' Market on Saturday and June 30.
