Gresham approves renewal grants for complex, business
Gresham urban renewal officials approved two grants to improve an apartment complex and help create jobs during a Tuesday, June 21, Gresham Redevelopment Commission meeting.
The commission awarded a $30,000 apartment rehabilitation grant to Burnside Gardens Apartments, 18200 N.E. Couch St., for security and safety-related upgrades, intended to spruce up buildings and grounds while minimizing police and fire calls to the property.
Grant payments, ranging from $5,000 to $30,000, are paid on a reimbursement basis after the work is completed and only pay for half of eligible project costs.
Urban renewal officials also approved a new industries grant for $71,250 to help support the John Deere Regional Distribution Center's 22,000-square-foot expansion of its facility at 2100 N.E. 181st Ave. in Gresham.
The grant is intended to encourage industrial companies to make capital investments and create quality jobs in the Rockwood West-Gresham Urban Renewal Area.
