Chianello knocked out in match play

Gresham's Nick Chianello dropped out of the Oregon Amateur Golf Championships with a first-round loss to Brent McKee of Eugene on Wednesday at Waverley Country Club. The duo traded the lead four times with neither going more than 1-up during the 18-hole showdown, but McKee came out on top by carding an eagle on the 538-yard 17th hole.
Chianello was 1-up through most of the front nine before losing the lead early on the front nine. He regained a brief edge by winning back-to-back holes with pars on the 12th and 13th.
He qualified as the No. 9 seed after putting up a 1-under 139 total through two rounds of stroke play.
• At the Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge at Emerald Valley Golf Course, Joe Knight of Gresham carded a 10-over 154 to finish tied for seventh in the boys 14-15 age division. He finished eight shots off the lead.
Gresham's Sophia Schiavone scored a 175 total to finish sixth in the girls 12-14 age group.
