Head out for an explosive Fourth of July

Want to ring in Independence Day with a bang? Well, you don't need to travel much further than your own backyard. A number of events will take place throughout the county on July 4 that promise to satisfy your love of majestic explosions as well as give you a chance to share your community pride.

Here is a look at some ideas to make this Fourth of July a memorable one:

St. Helens Fireworks Show

The ever-popular St. Helens fireworks display returns for another year to light up the sky with thousands of pounds of explosive firepower above the south end of Sand Island. View the display, set to begin around dusk, from Columbia View Park or along the water. Don't forget to get there early to make sure you get a prime spot.

Clatskanie Heritage Days

This nearly month-long celebration of all things Clatskanie wraps up on July 4 with a number of family-friendly events beginning with an 11 a.m. parade and ending with a fireworks spectacular beginning at dark above the city. For a full schedule visit www.clatskaniedays.com/events1.

Scappoose Pancake Breakfast

A pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Scappoose Fire Station will run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Come stuff yourself with breakfast and donate what you can to help fill the Scappoose Fire Scholarship Fund.
