'There she is, Miss America'
Anna Prosser represented Portland in the recent Miss USA Pageant. Could another Portlander, Alexandria Henderson, be a contender in the Miss America Pageant?
Preliminaries for the Miss Oregon Scholarship Pageant will be held this week, with 22 women competing to be Miss Oregon, including Portland representative Henderson. Her platform is 'Gotta Have Heart,' and her talent is singing.
Henderson was first runner-up for Miss Oregon last year.
The winner will be crowned July 2 at the Seaside Civic and Convention Center, with the Miss America Pageant in January in Las Vegas. Tickets are available to watch the talented and pretty people (1-866-345-6257, $36 for finals).
A story on Henderson is in the Entertainment section of portlandtribune.com.
A healthy ride
The family of 12-year-old Jackson Hill, who passed away from sarcoma, have used their grief to form the Jackson's Ride the Gorge fundraising ride, with hundreds of cyclists touring the Columbia River Gorge July 23 to support the Jackson Hill Foundation, which is building a family wellness center with the new Children's Hospital of Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
'My husband and I vowed, as Jackson grew weaker, we would do everything in our power to help other children and families avoid our fate,' Melissa Hill says.
