Little League team goes big time, heads to World Series
The Lake Oswego Little League All-Star team made history this past weekend by becoming only the third team in Oregon sports history to compete for the chance to be named the best little league team in the world.
Now the Lake Oswego Review is doing the same by sending assistant sports editor Matt Sherman to Williamsport, Pa., to cover the Little League World Series.
Sherman will be there from the opening ceremonies to the final out for Lake Oswego Little League. He will be Lake Oswego's eyes and ears at each game. He'll be sharing with you a local perspective on the behind-the-scene activities of what goes on at the Little League World Series.
You'll be able to get these updates every day from the Lake Oswego Review Web site, www.lakeoswegoreview.com. Plus he'll have the results of every game posted immediately online. Besides the Web site, you'll find the complete results for the entire nine days of Little League action wrapped up in the sports pages of the Lake Oswego Review.
For the Review, this is a first for the paper to make this type of commitment to cover a local team.
'It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,' said Publisher J. Brian Monihan. 'It's a milestone for this community and definitely a rally point for everyone who lives here. It's important for the Review to be there to provide the depth of local coverage that only a hometown newspaper can provide.'
Sherman's coverage begins Friday. Be sure to read the story in Sports on page A21 about the team's great win at the Northwest Regional as well as more details about its trip to the Little League World Series.
