Lake Oswego Lions Club picks Melanie George as president

Melanie George was installed as president of the Lake Oswego Lions Club at a recent installation and awards dinner held at the Oswego Heritage House.

Other officers include Terri Fackrell, first vice president; Beverly Sterling, second vice president; Marlene Dutton, third vice president; Raema Vincent, secretary; Hal Schmidt, treasurer; Jim Castle, lion tamer; and Kat Riley, tail twister. Bill Spencer, Jim Vincent, Barbara Buckley, Dave George, Patti Sadowski and Bob Thompson are directors for the organization.

Special awards for outstanding service and humanitarian efforts were awarded. They include:

n George was named the Lion of the Year.

n Melvin Jones Fellows, the highest humanitarian award available from Lions Clubs International, were presented to Riley and Thompson.

n The Helen Keller Benefactor award went to Patrick Bloedorn.

n Sarah DeMerritt received the Lions Project for Canine Compan-ions for Indepen-dence Fellow.

n Jim Vincent was recognized by the Oregon Sight and Hearing Foun-dation's Norm Ross Fellow.

Past District Gov. D. Sonya Pulley was the installing officer and guest speaker. She provided inspirational words and an entertaining installation.
