UPDATE • Police believe wound was self-inflicted

Portland police now believe that 22-year-old Andre Dupree Montgomery shot himself Monday afternoon.

Gang Enforcement Team members launched an investigation after Montgomery went to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his right leg around 5:49 p.m. Monday. Montgomery told police that he was in near North Mallory Avenue and Killingsworth Street when he was shot.

Officers checked the area but did not find evidence of a shooting or witnesses. There also were no calls to 9-1-1 about shots being fired in the area.

On Tuesday, police said they believe the wound was self-inflicted and asked the public to help locate the gun.
