New Sea Scout group launches
The inaugural meeting of the coed Sea Scout Ship 73 for the Boy Scouts of America (Cascade Pacific Council) is scheduled for Tuesday at 7 p.m at Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.
The public is invited.
Don Cornell, director of field service for the scouts, accepted the church's application and signed the charter agreement.
Local youth, members of Ship 73, have been training with sail and motor boats on the Columbia River near Portland International Airport since July 3.
Tuesday, they will commence instruction on operating a sail boat that is being assigned to them. The Sea Scouts attend local high schools and the group will welcome other young men and women in high school age 14 into the Sea Scouting Program.
This is possibly the first Sea Scout BSA program in Lake Oswego, said Richard Van Hoomissen, Lake Grove, who is the offical organizer of the local program.
Van Hoomissen also is founder of Lake Grove Flight (Civil Air Patrol) and chairman of LGPC Troop 218.
