Cornelius man injured in fatal head-on collision west of Gales Creek
A 68-year-old man from the North Oregon Coast is killed in the Monday accident
A North Oregon Coast man died Monday and a Cornelius man was injured in a head-on collision on Highway 6 a quarter-mile west of its intersection with Gales Creek Road.
State police Tuesday morning reported that Kenneth L. Clark, 68, of Cloverdale died at the scene. According to police reports, Clark was traveling westbound in his 1987 Ford Tempo when an eastbound 2001 Chevy Silverado crossed the center line and struck his vehicle.
Carl H. Weaver, of Cornelius, the driver of the Silverado, was transported by LifeFlight to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police officials have no information as to whether either man was wearing a seat belt.
A third vehicle was also involved in the accident when it struck the rear of the pickup truck. That vehicle suffered only minor damage and its driver and passengers were not injured.
Highway 6 was closed for five hours Monday so that crews could evacuate survivors.
