Scappoose 9-10s earn championship shot

Team must beat Willamette Purple twice to advance to state
by: John Brewington HOME SAFE—Scappoose’s Montana Poppenhagen is safe at home during the 9-10s softball win over Willamette Red on Friday.

The Scappoose 9-10s all-star team still had a chance to win the Little League District 1 championship going into Tuesday night's game.

Scappoose won their first two games of the tournament, topping a combined Hollywood-Lakeside-Rose and #8200;City team in the opener, 9-8, and then beating Willamette Red, 21-0. Willamette Purple then beat them 13-3, sending them into the loser's bracket.

Scappoose broke open a close game with Peninsula on Monday, scoring 10 runs in the last inning for a 22-11 win.

Tuesday they were to face Willamette Purple again, but would have to beat them twice to win the district title. If Scappoose won on and #8200;Tuesday, the final championship game is scheduled for Wednesday night.

The state tournament is slated for Sheldon and #8200;High School in and #8200;Eugene, July 23-30.
