Legends Golf Classic lineup goes country with the addition of Clint Black and Darius Rucker
As if this rock star's tournament couldn't get more of a Nashville twang to it, country recording legend Clint Black has confirmed his attendance at the 2011 Pacific University Legends Golf Classic, which takes place on Sunday, July 31 and Monday, Aug. 1.
Black will join tournament host and KISS lead guitarist Tommy Thayer for a Sunday night concert that has more than just a little country appeal. Black joins a couple of other country stars in 2009 CMA New Artist of the Year Darius Rucker and legendary singer-songwriter Johnny Lee.
Black will also be among the field of celebrity golfers playing in Monday's tournament to support Pacific University's 21-sport NCAA Division III athletics program.
The 1989 CMA Top Male Vocalist of the Year, Black has amassed more than 30 singles on the Billboard country charts, including 13 No. 1 singles. His debut album, 'Killin' Time,' was the first of seven to go platinum and was named the CMA's 1989 Album of the Year. Perhaps best known for his 1998 smash, 'Nothin' But The Taillights,' Black most recently hit No. 1 in 1999 with 'When I Said I Do,' recorded with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black.
Black joins a list of musicians sure to make Sunday's event at Nike's Tiger Woods Center in Beaverton a great fit for anyone's musical taste. Joining Thayer and his country friends will be the guitarist for The Doors, Robbie Krieger, former Eagles lead guitarist Don Felder, KISS drummer Eric Singer, former Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine and singer-songwriter Ray Kennedy.
Sunday's event will be emceed by Holly Sonders, host of 'The Morning Drive' on The Golf Channel. The evening begins with silent and live auctions featuring memorabilia from the music and sports world, trips, special concert opportunities and a limited edition KISS Mini Cooper automobile to raise funds for Pacific's intercollegiate athletics program.
The golf tournament begins on Monday at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in Aloha, one of the premier courses in the Pacific Northwest. A professional golf clinic featuring PGA and LPGA professionals will precede the double-shotgun start.
