Summer program serves up food at 52 locations
Kids can get a free breakfast or lunch at five sites in Forest Grove
The good 'ol summertime is a fine season for kids to get a square meal.
The Washington County Commission on Children and Families has helped coordinate the Summer Food Program since 2005, and this year there are 52 sites - including five in Forest Grove - where kids up to age 18 can get a free breakfast or lunch.
Local sites include Joseph Gale Elementary School, Tom McCall Upper Elementary, Forest Grove High School, Rose Grove Park and Lincoln Park in Forest Grove, as well as Harleman Park in Cornelius.
In 2009, WCCF distributed 220,017 lunches to an average of 6,665 children and youth at 45 summer food sites, said Janet Kretzmeier of the organization.
In 2010, WCCF distributed 273,300 lunches at 52 sites.
From July 20 to Aug. 3, members of the childrens' commission will be on hand to assist in serving meals, Kretzmeier noted.
