A Scappoose man was arrested Saturday afternoon following a 30-minute standoff with police in an unoccupied building off Highway 30.
Shane David Hansen, 30, was arrested July 9 on outstanding warrants for parole and probation violations, but further charges may still come.
Around 7:42 a.m. earlier that morning, an Oregon State Police trooper reported seeing a man, later identified as Hansen, leaning into a 1997 Honda Accord by the entrance of a gated driveway leading to a private property on Rocky Point Road, about a half mile south from the highway.
When the trooper approached Hansen, the suspect was reportedly uncooperative before fleeing on foot into the heavily wooded area.
The Honda, it turns out, was stolen from St. Helens.
An initial search failed to find Hansen, but a tip led officers to an outbuilding in the 51000 block of Highway 30 where Hansen was holed up with a large knife.
After a 30-minute standoff, police arrested Hansen.
