Ralph Painter Memorial Run draws crowd to Rainier
An estimated 140 participants turned out in Rainier on Saturday for the inaugural Ralph Painter Memorial Run and Walk.
The event was a fundraiser for the Ralph Painter Memorial Scholarship, which supports qualifying high school seniors in Columbia County.
'I think Ralph would have loved it,' said Alan Painter, Ralph's brother.
Rainier's former chief of police, Ralph was killed in the line of duty in January.
Alan said the total contribution to the scholarship has not yet been calculated.
He said he's looking forward to next year's event. 'Hopefully it will get bigger and better each year.'
