Lake Oswego Chamber of Commerce member Lynn Brokaw is spearheading efforts to assist Vernonia Public Schools replace school supplies damaged in the recent flooding.
'Todd Hicks, head football coach at Vernonia High School mentioned to me that as a result of the storm damage, there is a great need for school supplies for the students at Vernonia Public Schools,' he wrote in an e-mail message sent to chamber members.
'This is an area of many low income families. Many of the students have lost their homes and all their belongings. This is just a beginning and we would like to do whatever we can to help,' the message continued.
An account has been set up at OnPoint Credit Union and any of their offices can accept donations for the Vernonia School Fund.
Brokaw, a Realtor with Hasson Company Realtors, is willing to work with donors on special school supplies such as backpacks and will arrange to have items picked up. He can be reached at 503-481-3453
