Four cars damaged by crooks in stolen van — before theyre caught on Tacoma Street

On Friday, November 23, at 1:10 am, a Milwaukie Police officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a minor traffic infraction on S.E. McLoughlin Boulevard at S.E. Washington Street. The driver of the vehicle refused to stop for the officer, and a brief pursuit was initiated.

Moments later, the pursued vehicle, a Ford van which was later determined to be stolen, crashed into a VW Jetta in the 2900 block of S.E. Tacoma Street, just east of the McLoughlin interchange. The driver of the stolen vehicle and a passenger fled on foot, but were quickly found and arrested by officers.

During the pursuit the suspect attempted to ram police vehicles, and caused minor damage to one of the police cruisers after striking it. Another police vehicle's tires were damaged after running over spike strips, which were placed in an attempt to stop the pursuit.

The driver of the damaged VW Jetta, a 20-year-old Portland man, suffered minor injuries, and was treated at the scene.

From the stolen vehicle officers seized a small amount of methamphetamine along with items commonly used to commit burglaries.

Arrested was the driver of the vehicle, Kevin Michael Lasiter, 48 of Portland. He was charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony and Misdemeanor Attempt to Elude, Felony and Misdemeanor Hit and Run, 3rd degree assault, 2 counts of 1st degree Criminal Mischief, 2 counts of 2nd degree Criminal Mischief, Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangering and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He was being held at the Clackamas County jail under $100,000 bail.

Also arrested was the passenger in the stolen van, Robert Lee Wingfield, 39, of Portland. He was held on a Multnomah County parole detainer, and was lodged at the Clackamas County jail without bail.

Milwaukie Police spokesman Officer Kevin Krebs reveals that both suspects have extensive criminal histories.

Continuing the busy Thanksgiving weekend for Milwaukie officers, On Saturday, November 24, at 3:22 pm, a Milwaukie officer stopped a vehicle for speeding on S.E. McLoughlin Boulevard and SE Scott Street. During the course of the stop a large amount of packaged marijuana was found inside the vehicle. Discovered in the vehicle, which had a single occupant, was over 10 ounces of marijuana. The marijuana was packaged and appeared to be ready for sale.

Arrested in the case was Jacob Keith Jump, 29, of Portland. He was charged with Unlawful Delivery and Possession of Marijuana within 1,000 Feet of a School. He was lodged at the Clackamas County jail.

In addition to the drug charges the suspect was also charged with Driving with a Suspended License and Driving Without Insurance. Officers seized the marijuana from the vehicle plus nearly $400 in cash.
