Mansur, Love place at North Bend Classic
Mansur gives Canby's Doman a run for his money
NORTH BEND - Clackamas High wrestlers Cody Mansur and Tim Love did themselves proud at the recent 33-team Coast Classic Wrestling Tournament, held here Dec. 14-15.
Mansur, an 189-pound sophomore, won five of six matches and placed third in his weight division.
Love, a 171-pound senior, won four of six matches and placed fifth.
Mansur earned a 5-3 decision over Nick Shoesmith of Grants Pass in the third-place finals. His only loss came at the hands of Canby standout Michael Doman.
After getting taken down to his back twice and falling behind 10-1, Mansur rallied, but came up short, losing to Doman 16-10.
Mansur also won by 6-5 decision over Jonathon Platt of Eagle Point, a top-ranked wrestler in Class 5A.
Love scored a last-second takedown to defeat Robby Mannebach of Eagle Point 6-4 in his fifth-place final. A two-time state place-winner, Mannebach was ranked second in the state.
Competing without several of their top wrestlers, the Cavaliers scored 56-1/2 points and placed 19th in the tournament team scoring.
Heading up the team tournament scoring were: Roseburg (233-1/2), Canby (220), Newberg (145), Sprague (137) and Crook County (135-1/2).
