Football: Western Oregon offensive tackle Paul Wright, a senior from Franklin High, made the Independent Collegiate Athletic Association all-star team and the all-Independent team. The Wolves (9-2) were ranked No. 1 among Division II independents after their 26-12 victory over Colorado School of Mines in the Dec. 1 Rotary Bowl at St. George, Utah.

Senior defensive back Zach Christopherson (Wilson) led Western Oregon with four interceptions and was fifth in tackles with 53. He was named football athlete of the year by his coaches.

Freshman running back D.J. Jackson (Jesuit) averaged 5.5 yards per carry and ran for 208 yards and three touchdowns in his return from five years of minor league baseball. He also caught nine passes for 46 yards and led the Wolves in kickoff returns (14 for 305 yards).

Quarterback Mark Thorson (Sandy) finished his fourth year at WOU with four school career records and a record 195 completions for a single season.

Senior Jay Darden (Lincoln) had two picks and a fumble recovery at defensive back.

Sophomore defensive back Andrew Jackson (Madison) became a starter or first player off the bench and was sixth in tackles with 41. He also had two sacks and a blocked kick.

Senior defensive end Casey O'Donnell (Reynolds) led WOU with 12 tackles for loss and had six sacks.

Sophomore linebacker Andy Douglas (Aloha) ranked fourth in tackles with 51. He had eight tackles for loss, 4 1/2 sacks and two interceptions.

Sean Fullerton (West Linn), a sophomore, was fourth in receptions with 29 for 343 yards and two TDs.
