No one hurt in Monday incident at Unthank Park
Portland police arrested a man on gun charges Monday evening after a drive-by shooting in North Portland.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Timothy Gaines, 19, was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of felon in possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm. Police believe he was an intended victim and his gun was not involved in the shooting.
According to police, at 8:34 p.m., North Precinct officers responded to a shots fired call at North Shaver Street and Kerby Avenue. When they arrived, the officers observed Gaines apparently holding a handgun in his waistband. When the officers attempted to contact Gaines, he took off running and threw the gun. He was quickly arrested in the middle of Unthank Park and the handgun was recovered by police, however.
Police say Gaines is a gang member.
Investigators then located a crime scene along North Shaver between Kerby and Borthwick. Witnesses described a large, black SUV drive by a group of gang members that included Gaines. Someone in the SUV fired multiple shots at the group., then the SUV sped away eastbound on North Shaver.
Nobody was hit in the shooting.
