Police plan Bicycle Safety Rodeo

The West Linn Police Department will hold a Bicycle Safety Rodeo this weekend for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

The free, drop-in event is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the West Linn Les Schwab Tires, located at 1990 Eighth Ave.

It aims to show bicycle riders safe riding practices in a fun, noncompetitive environment.

'Fun will be had by all,' police Chief Terry Timeus said. 'This is a great opportunity to spread the word about safe bicycling and develop safe riding skills for everyone.'

Officers from the department's bike detail will guide participants through a series of skill stations to help them hone their abilities, whether they're relatively new to cycling or seasoned riders. All participants must wear helmets while riding the course.

Those who attend can also receive helmet fit inspections.

Les Schwab Tires and Cayuse Cycles are partnering with police to put on the event. Cayuse will provide free bike safety inspections at the safety rodeo.
