Pair of national honors received

The Lake Oswego Review was recognized for two first-place honors in the 2011 National Newspaper Association's Better Newspaper Contest and Better Newspaper Advertising Contest.

Both honors were for special sections produced during 2010.

The Review's awards, which were announced Tuesday, will be presented at the Toast to the Winners Awards Sept. 24 during the NNA's 125th annual Convention and Trade Show in Albuquerque, N.M.

The awards were for:

* Perspective: The 'Perspective: Extraordinary People' special section won in the Best Special News, Sports or Feature Section or Edition category for non-daily newspapers with circulations of 6,000 to 9,999. Written by staff writers and freelancers, it was designed by Martin Forbes, Rebecca Randall and Nicole DeCosta; chief photographer and cover design was by Vern Uyetake.

* LO: The monthly LO glossy publication took Best Sales Promotion Section or Edition in the non-daily division with a circulation between 5,000 and 7,999. The 12-page section is produced by DeCosta, staff writer Claire Oliver, photographer Uyetake, designer Kathleen Reihl and designer Sherry Dorn.

'Congratulations to everyone on our staff,' said Review and Tidings publisher J. Brian Monihan. 'You are now not only the best in the state, but best in the nation. This is awesome news.'
