FUNDRAISER -- Fourth-graders bake their way to cancer fund donations
Banks Elementary School fourth-grader Melissa Epifano wanted to raise money for breast cancer research.
She grabbed her best friend, Logan Wilmoth, for a brainstorming session and set to work.
The girls stirred up batches of cookies and raised some real dough for the cause.
With Principal Marty Voge's blessing, the students sold cookies before and after school for three days earlier this month, raising more than $250.
The goodies, featuring pink icing, were baked in shapes of flowers, ribbons and hearts.
Other students joining in the philanthropic cooking session included fourth-graders Holly Dotson, Sydney Young, Emma Heesacker, Kylie Bonham and Desiree Forcier.
All the students were in teacher Doreen Ring's class.
Funds were donated earlier this month to the Tuality Health Care Foundation's breast cancer center.
