Platt Electric readies for John Nero tourney
The Sunset AAA Legion team will test itself vs. 15 other baseball teams
The Platt Electric AAA American Legion baseball team knows how to get ready for the July 4th holiday.
Platt Electric, Sunset's AAA Legion team, will participate in and co-host the annual John Nero Invitational Tournament, set Wednesday through July 3 at Sunset High School, Hare Field in Hillsboro and at Liberty High School.
Platt Electric opens play in the 16-team tournament against Benson at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset, then continues pool play vs. N. Delta No. 1 at 3 p.m. June 29 at Sunset, and against Australia at 3 p.m. June 30 at Sunset.
The team will then continue into championship play through July 3 based on where it finishes in its four-team pool.
The other teams in the tournament are Rock Creek (Liberty), Alpenrose (Wilson), Caldwell, Prairie, Hillsboro, NW Star, Century, Trail BC, Glencoe, Showtime, N. Delta No. 2 and the Vandals.
Each of the teams will feature players ages 16-18, all using wooden bats throughout the event.
Admission costs $4 per day or $25 for a full tournament family pass.
The tournament is named for longtime Sckavone Field announcer and amateur baseball supporter John Nero.
