Kempt and Pearce win first-team all-state honors for Class 4A baseball
Two Beaverton-area seniors finished their baseball seasons with the biggest honor of the year, being named to the Class 4A all-state baseball first team.
Westview senior first baseman Cody Kempt and Jesuit senior outfielder Austin Pearce both won berths on the 4A all-state first team. Pearce's Crusaders won the Metro League title and advanced to the Class 4A state quarterfinals before being eliminated, while Kempt's Wildcats were second in the Metro League before being ousted in the first round.
Other Beaverton-area players honored on all-state baseball teams Tuesday included: Westview junior Ben Pressler, second team; Westview senior catcher Michael Cero, second team; Aloha junior pitcher Dylan Jones, honorable mention; Sunset junior pitcher D.J. Johnson, honorable mention; Beaverton junior shortstop Austin Potter, honorable mention; and Jesuit junior outfielder Michael Lowe, honorable mention.
Roseburg senior pitcher Blake Keitzman was named Player of the Year, and Wilson's Mike Clopton was selected Coach of the Year.
At the Class 3A level, Astoria junior Matt Brause and Central senior Joe Pratt were selected as Co-Players of the Year, while Sherwood's Jon Strohmaier was named Coach of the Year.
