King City Dems elect Barnes for coming year

The King City Democrats elected King City resident Daniel J. Barnes the Chair for the upcoming year.

Continuing in office will be Ray Robinson, vice chair, Bonnie Babbitt, secretary, and Barbara Campbell, treasurer.

Albertheia Tabor is the outgoing chairwoman. She was presented with a gift from the group and many thanks for her dedication.

Barnes was born in Staten Island, New York, on December 27, 1924. He grew up as an only child and first-born American of Irish parents. He went all through Catholic schools in Staten Island, and after graduating from High School found himself in the U.S. Army. Fortunately, at that time, the Army had a program to train Engineers and Barnes was sent to Princeton University courtesy of the Army.

As WWII was escalating all the students soon were transferred to Infantry Divisions and Barnes drew the 104th Infantry Division (Timberwolf Division), which had been formed at Camp Adair, near Corvallis. He fought in France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany, where he was wounded.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Dan attended the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he got his BS degree in Civil Engineering. He also met his bride Betty. Barnes obtained his professional license as a Civil Engineer, he and Betty got married and had a family.

Dan and Betty are now retired and very happy in King City.
