The day was hot; the truck was toast
A bit warm under the hood
Saturday, June 24th, was the hottest day of the year to date--90 degrees in Westmoreland--and ushered in summer in the Northwest. But it got even hotter in a pickup truck northbound on McLoughlin Boulevard, just north of Ross Island Sand and Gravel.
By the time the two occupants realized the vehicle was on fire, pulled over, and bailed out, the fire was too advanced to avoid destruction of the truck, despite fast response by the Westmoreland firefighters of Station 20.
Brooklyn's truck 23 assisted by laying hose down S.E. Bush. Northbound traffic on McLoughlin was shut off for most of the 6 pm hour. There were no injuries.
