The interim director of the Portland Parks and Recreation Bureau will present a plan for future trail development in the area at the City Council's Wednesday morning meeting at City Hall, the bureau said today.

In 2001, Portland adopted the long-range Parks 2020 Vision Plan, with trails as a key component. The bureau now wants to expand the area's 146 miles of completed trails to more than 220 miles through its Recreational Trails Strategy, which interim Director Zari Santner and senior planner Gregg Everhart plan to present at the council meeting.

The presentation, available for download on the bureau's Web site, cites a recent survey that found 77 percent of the Portland population uses trails each year, and more than 50 percent use trails at least monthly.
