Tualatin water rates to stay same

Council approves budget for fiscal year '06-'07

TUALATIN - Tualatin residents' water rates will be unchanged by the city's recently signed 10-year contract with the city of Portland.

City staff waited until the agreement was finalized before figuring out what effect the shortened contract would have on rates and on the city's budget.

The Tualatin City Council approved the 2006-07 fiscal year budget Monday night.

The city of Tualatin's $15.75 million budget for the next fiscal year includes the addition of three positions at the city - two of which were approved during the current fiscal year. A full-time assistant planner and a full-time teen recreation program specialist have already been added. The police department will be receiving a full-time property evidence technician to provide more safeguards and organization in the department's evidence room. The addition of the evidence technician, however, means no community services/code compliance officer position can be added this year, according to a budget overview.

Next fiscal year, residents can also expect an average residential sewer bill increase of $1 set by Clean Water Services.
