The event takes place June 28-29.
The American Cancer Society invites the community to participate in Sherwood's Relay For Life on July 28 and 29 at the Sherwood Middle School. The opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. and all Survivors are invited to walk in the first lap of the relay to celebrate their victory over cancer.
There will also be a Luminaria Ceremony lap beginning around 9 p.m. to recognize those who have been touched by cancer. The public is welcome to purchase a Luminaria for $5 in memory of those who have lost their fight with cancer or in honor of someone who has survived this disease. To purchase luminaries, you can either contact Leslie McCabe, event chair at (503) 880-9866, or purchase them on line at Sherwood's Relay For Life Website: www.acsevents.org/relay/or/Sherwood.
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society's national signature event and is as much an awareness raiser as a fundraiser. Our goal this year is to raise $35,000. This is a family-oriented team event, which brings participants from all parts of the community together in a "celebration of life." The relay is typically a 24-hour event where local businesses, churches, friends and family take turns walking and running in relay fashion while they celebrate the critical role the American Cancer Society plays in the fight against cancer.
The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life of Sherwood represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. If you would like more details about the event or would like to participate in some way, please contact Leslie McCabe, event chair at 503-880-9866, Megan Slack from the American Cancer Society at 503-795-3923 or visit the website at www.cancer.org.
