Timbers defender named to All-Star team

Portland Timbers defender Scot Thompson has been selected to play in the 2006 United Soccer Leagues First Division All-Star game, which pits the best players from the USL First Division against English Coca-Cola Championship league team Sheffield.

Thompson, 25, was a USL First-Division All-League First Team selection for the Timbers in 2005 and was a finalist for the First Division's Defender of the Year award.

This season, he has made 12 appearances with the Timbers and helped lead Portland to its first-ever point against Rochester with a June 17 goal.

The All-Star game is scheduled for July 19 in Cary, N.C.
