Former Hawk Wesley signs up for another year with Carolina

He won the Stanley Cup in his 18th NHL season

Former Portland Winter Hawks player Glen Wesley will play at least one more season in the National Hockey League.

Wesley, a 37-year-old defenseman who helped Carolina win the Stanley Cup, has agreed to a one-year deal for a reported $1.2 million with the Hurricanes.

It will be Wesley's 19th season in the NHL. Before the Hurricanes won the title, he had played in more NHL games than any active player never to win a Stanley Cup - Game 7 against Edmonton in the NHL finals was his 1,480th career game.

Wesley played with the Winter Hawks, a junior team in the Western Hockey League, from 1983 to 1987 before the Boston Bruins made him the third overall pick in the 1987 draft. He played with the Bruins for seven years. and he has played with Carolina since 1994.
