Knights avoid sweep in Bellingham
The Aloha Knights semi-pro baseball team broke up a series sweep in Bellingham by beating the Bells 3-0 in the final game Wednesday, June 5. Knights' pitcher Eric Massingham scattered four hits and struck out seven through eight innings of work. Third baseman Brent Morel provided the offense by scoring each of Aloha's runs after going 3 for 3 at the plate.
The Knights moved to 11-7 in the West Coast Collegiate Baseball League, trailing first-place Spokane by two games. Those teams face off for a three-game series in Spokane this weekend.
Aloha was one strike away from winning the series opener Monday, July 3, before Bellingham put together a three-run burst in the ninth inning to win 4-3. The Bells scored the winning run on an Aloha error. Bellingham won the middle game 5-0.
The Knights landed seven players on the West squad for the West Coast Baseball League all-star game Tuesday, July 11, in Wenatchee, Wash. Aloha's all-stars include pitchers Jared Prince, James Wallace and Marc Rzepczynski, while infielders Mark Samuelson and Ryan Selden will join catcher Erik Ammon and outfielder Zach Borba in the field.
