Three suspicious fires under investigation

Friday morning blazes cause minimal damage
by: Portland Fire & Rescue This blaze at 2625 N.E. Couch caused an estimated $20,000 in damages.

Portland firefighters responded to three suspicious fires early Friday morning.

The first fire was reported at 2:45 a.m. in a dumpster at Southeast 30th Place and Ankeny Street. It was quickly extinguished.

As firefighters from Southeast Portland's Station 9 were leaving that fire, another fire was reported at 3:05 am at 3421 S.E. Salmon St. They responded to that fire and it was also quickly extinguished.

The third and most serious fire was reported at 3:21 a.m. at 2625 N.E. Couch St. It started on the outside of a commercial building formerly used as a bank that is now vacant. The fire appears to have started under a building overhang previously used for drive-thru banking.

Firefighters responded and brought the fire under control before it could enter the building. Damage from this fire is estimated at $20,000.

All three fires are under investigation, including the possibility that they are connected.
