Las Vegas goes for sweep of Bevos tonight at PGE Park
Las Vegas hopes to draw three of a kind tonight, going for the sweep against the Portland Beavers at PGE Park.
It's also Thursday, which means the Beavers will be staging a party with cheap beer and a baseball game will break out at 7 p.m.
The 51s won 6-4 on Wednesday, rallying with five runs in the eighth inning. James Loney and Wilkin Ruan, who had three hits, had two-run hits in the inning. The pitching victim was Aquilino Lopez, who gave up all five eighth-inning runs.
Portland's Terrmel Sledge, who hit a prodigious home run on the Fourth of July, continued his hot hitting with three hits - giving him five in the first two games of the series. Jon Knott hit his team-leading 18th home run, and Manny Alexander also went deep. Roger Deago had a quality start for the Bevos (40-46).
Mike Thompson, who went 5-0 for Portland before being called up and winning three games for San Diego, will take the mound tonight against Justin Reid (1-4).
Jack Cust drew his 80th walk and now has reached base in 36 consecutive home games.
Ben Johnson went on the 15-day disabled list for the parent San Diego Padres, who activated Dave Roberts. There was some speculation that Johnson would be sent to Portland, which could still happen when he comes off the DL. Johnson hurt the AC joint in his left shoulder in a collision with Mike Cameron on Saturday, and aggravated the injury in batting practice. He's having trouble swinging.
