Betty Lou Hillyard

Gresham resident Betty Lou Hillyard, 70, died Tuesday, July 4. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Cherry Park Presbyterian Church, 348 S.W. Cherry Park Road, Troutdale. Interment will be at Douglass Pioneer Cemetery, Southwest 14th Street, Troutdale.
Betty was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Superior, Neb., to Harold and Mildred (Roland) Moffatt. She was raised in Troutdale and graduated from Gresham High School in 1953.
On Aug. 28, 1955, she married Donald Hillyard in Boring. She was a homemaker and later worked as the Sandy High School music secretary for 16 years. She retired in 1994. She continued to work as an assistant at the school after her retirement.
Betty volunteered with Guide Dogs for the Blind and enjoyed traveling.
In 1995, Betty was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include her daughter, Tamra Taylor of Gresham; sons, Douglas Hillyard of Brightwood and Brian Hillyard of Boring; companion, Dick Dowsett of Gresham; and two grandchildren.
