Irene M. May

March 28, 1918-June 21, 2006

Gresham resident Irene M. May, 88, died Wednesday, June 21, in Gresham. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at Lynchwood Christian Church, 3815 S.E. 174th Ave., Portland.

Irene was born March 28, 1918, in Antler, N.D., to Bertlin and Hazel (Dooley) Ashley. She graduated from Kuroki High School in Kuroki, N.D.

She married Tom May in 1943, in Portland.

She owned Tommy May's coffee shop in Estacada for 18 years, and then moved to Eugene. She moved to Gresham in 2005. She loved to dance and to whistle while listening to music.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Survivors include by her son, John May of Oregon City; daughters, Mary Kingma of Moses Lake, Wash., Betty May of Springfield and Patti Parry of Etna, Calif.; stepson, Tim May of Portland; brothers, Albert Ashley of Newport and Clifford Ashley of Vancouver, Wash.; sister, Loretta Washburn, of Gresham; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
