Walter Edwin Armstrong
June 1, 1914-July 1, 2006
Longtime Gresham resident Walter Edwin Armstrong, 92, died Saturday, July 1, in Gresham. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, at Powell Valley Covenant Church, 1335 S.E. 282nd Ave., Gresham. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 400 S.W. Walters Drive, Gresham.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 8-9, at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home, 520 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham.
Walter was born June 1, 1914, in Gresham to George and Theda (Cooley) Armstrong. He was raised and educated in East County and attended Victory Grade School and Gresham High School.
On Aug. 11, 1935, Walter married Izola Kutscher in Gresham. They owned and operated a farm in Troutdale until 1961. He then owned and operated W.E. Armstrong and Son Construction and a John Deer dealership in Gresham. He retired in the late 1980s.
Walter was a member of Powell Valley Covenant Church and the Pleasant Home/Mt. Hood Gun Club. He enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, picnics, golf, taking care of his yard and spending time with his family.
In 1997, Walter was preceded in death by his wife. He was also preceded in death by his son, Gale Armstrong, in 1983. Survivors include his son, Gene Armstrong of Gresham; daughters, Wanita Ause and Claudia Girod, both of Portland; sister, Eva Krebs of Tualatin; and six grandchildren.
