Man arrested after losing Old Town fight

Portland police tasered and arrested a man in Old Town after he was punched in the face by another man he apparently threatened with a BB gun.
According to police, at 5:24 p.m. Friday, a Central Precinct officer in the area of Northwest 6th and Couch was flagged down about a man with a gun around the corner. The officer walked around the corner and saw a white male bleeding from the mouth, laying on the ground and holding a handgun.
The man started to get up and turn towards the officer, who gave the man several commands to drop the gun and lay down on the ground. The man did not obey the commands and the officer shot him with his less-lethal Taser. He was then arrested.
Officers then learned that the man, identified as 50-year-old Christopher Phillips, got into a confrontation with an unknown black male. Phillips pulled a gun on the black male, who punched him in the face and then fled the scene.
Based on the information at the scene, officers believe that the fight was drug-related. Officers recovered the gun and discovered it was a BB gun.
Phillips was transported to an area hospital for medical treatment and was issued a citation for disorderly conduct and attempted possession of a controlled substance based on his possession of a crack pipe. The unknown black male has not been identified.
