DRINK COFFEE, HELP HABITAT-
Coffee People stores in the Portland area are helping a hardworking local family build a home.
Through July 31, customers are urged to buy a $2 raffle ticket to win one of two $500 gift cards to Coffee People. The winners will be announced Aug. 4.
Purchasing raffle tickets will help Portland Habitat for Humanity and Coffee people build a simple, decent and affordable home for a family living in substandard living conditions.
Coffee People has been a longtime supporter of Portland Habitat for Humanity, supplying warm coffee on cold days for construction volunteers. To find out more, visit a local Coffee People or go to www.pdxhabitat.org.
HOST AN EXCHANGE STUDENT, MAKE A DIFFERENCE-
Local families are needed in August to host an exchange student for a three-week summer program, sponsored by. NISE.
The students are in school at Portland State University from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. They can share a room but need their own bed. The host family provides meals, makes sure the student gets to and from school, and socializes with the student after school.

World Heritage, a public benefit organization, is also seeking local families to host high school students from another country. Students are needed for the 2006-2007 academic school year.
Host families provide room, board and guidance. Students are well screened and are selected based on academic performance, English proficiency, teacher recommendations and personal interviews.
Couples, single parents and families with or without children at home who are adventurous, fun loving, responsible and caring are encouraged to apply.
Each student is fully insured, brings his or her own personal spending money and expects to bear a share of the household responsibilities and be included in family activities.

THE GROTTO OBSERVES BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS-
The Grotto, an internationally-renowned Catholic sanctuary located on Sandy Boulevard at N.E. 85th Avenue in Portland, will observe its 23rd annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, July 16.
The ceremony will take place at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary's central plaza.
The Blessing of the Animals offers individuals with pets an opportunity to reflect upon the positive impact animals have on our emotional and physical well-being. Individuals of all faiths are invited to bring their properly restrained companion animals for the ceremony.

MCMENAMINS HOSTS ANNUAL ROADHOUSE BREWFEST-
McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse and Imbrie Hall in Hillsboro will host the fifth Annual Roadhouse Brewfest on Saturday, July 15.
This noncompetitive celebration of beer brings together eight ales from eight McMenamins breweries on Imbrie's six-acre farmstead. It also features knowledgeable brewers ready to answer questions throughout the day.
Visitors can meet, mingle and chat with brewers, enjoy food from Imbrie Hall's extensive menu and let Joe Mishkin 'The Balloon Guy' entertain the family starting at 4 p.m.
They will also have the chance to enjoy some live musical acts at 4 and 6 p.m. Drunken Prayer will start things off with some country soul music, followed by Richmond Fontaine, a band that has established itself nationally with its signature form of alt.country.
The 5th Annual Roadhouse Brewfest runs from 4 to 11 p.m. All ages are welcome; guests must be 21 or over to sample beers. There is no charge to attend the event. Beer tokens can be purchased for sampling the ales- one token is equal to half-pint, two tokens equal a full pint. Tokens cost $1.50 each; purchase a commemorative mug for $6 and receive a coupon redeemable for two beer tokens.
