Crew prevails 1-0 over Timbers

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Portland Timbers failed to put together their first road win streak of the MLS season, falling 1-0 to the Columbus Crew on Saturday night.

The announced crowd of 11,246 saw the home team prevail on an own goal in the 79th minute. A shot by Columbus' Eddie Gaven deflected off Timbers defender Mamadou "Futty" Danso and into the net.

Each team finished with 18 shots.

Portland fell to 6-10-3 (21 points), while the Crew climbed to 8-6-7 (31 points).

The Timbers were coming off their first MLS road victory, over Chicago the previous week.

Portland will play its next three matches at Jeld-Wen Field, starting with an 8 p.m. Tuesday exhibition against Argentine club Independiente. The Timbers will play host to Toronto FC at 8 p.m., Saturday, July 30.
