Autumn Lorraine Staggs is one of two suspects, cops say
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office arrested Autumn Lorraine Staggs Tuesday in connection with a Saturday kidnapping and robbery at a Northeast Portland apartment complex.
Police said they suspect Staggs, 21, and an unidentified man of binding two brothers, ages 10 and 14, at the Medera Court Apartments, 23901 N.E. Halsey St., at 2:21 p.m. Saturday and robbing them at knifepoint. The man is still at large.
Cops arrested Staggs Tuesday evening as she fled from a Rite Aid drug store in downtown Portland during the alleged commission of another, unnamed crime.
Staggs has a criminal record in the Portland area for prostitution and drug charges, said Multnomah County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Jason Gates.
According police, Staggs had been subletting one of the rooms in her two-bedroom apartment to the Salinas family, who had answered an advertisement she had placed.
After Staggs allegedly tied the two boys' wrists with tape and robbed them of more than $700, police said her accomplice threatened to kill the children with a knife if they tried to escape.
The Salinas boys were able to escape, however, and fled to where their parents work, near Northeast 230th Avenue and Northeast Halsey Street.
Gates said the boys were unharmed but shaken up after the ordeal.
