East County completed its dominance at the Hoodview district tournament by beating Grant 4-0 in Monday's championship game.

The Knights scored the winning run on a solo homer by Mark Hunter in the second inning, and extended their lead with a pair of late sacrifice flies by Jim Bray.

'Those extra runs take the pressure of our pitchers, and with (Austan) Mason in there a couple runs is all we need,' Bray said.

Mason entered the game in the third inning and gave up only three hits. Two of those base-runners were thrown out by catcher Will DeBiccari on steal attempts.

The Knights outscored their tournament opponents by a combined tally of 58-7 during the five-day tournament, ending each of their round-robin games on the 10-run mercy rule.

East County will host a first-round series, starting at 8:15 p.m. Saturday, July 19. Grant hosts the No. 3 team out of the Three Rivers district.

• Reynolds beat David Douglas 6-2 in the third-place game, moving in front to stay with a four-run burst in the sixth inning. Nick Prante highlighted the charge by driving a three-run triple into left field.

The Raiders open a best-of-three series on the road against the Metro runner-up Saturday, July 19. Reynolds will host the middle game Sunday. David Douglas is part of a four-team round-robin qualifier to be played at 5 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Sunset High School, with the winner advancing to face East County in a first-round series.

Expanded district results will run in Wednesday's edition of The Gresham Outlook.
