PSU picked fourth in Big Sky Conference by media, coaches

Coach Tim Walsh has high hopes for his Portland State football team. But fellow coaches and media members are not as high on the Viks - at least yet.

The Vikings have been picked fourth in the Big Sky Conference by coaches and media in separate polls.

Portland State went 6-5 overall and 4-3 in the Big Sky last season. The Vikings have three games against Division I-A opponents, starting with the season-opener Sept. 2 at New Mexico, and later playing California and Oregon.

Junior offensive lineman Brennan Carvalho was named first-team preseason all-Big Sky; two media outlets have also tabbed him first-team preseason All-American.

Montana was selected first in both polls for the sixth time in the past seven years. The polls -- showing rank, team (first place votes), points - are as follows:
