Thomas Gardner, a former Jefferson High basketball standout, could be headed to play for Verviers-Pepinster of Belgium's top division. He reportedly has an offer from the club and has had feelers from two teams in Greece.

Gardner wasn't drafted by an NBA team last month after leaving Missouri a year early, and the San Antonio Spurs didn't pick him for their summer-league team after his tryout with them last week.

Two high school state champions - Rebecca Kim (2004 and '05 with McNary and 2006 with Tigard) and Kristen Svicarovich (2003, Glencoe) - have qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur golf championship.

University of Oregon golf coach Shannon Rouillard also earned a spot in the field in last week's qualifying tournament at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Wash. The Amateur is Aug. 7 through Aug. 13 at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains.
