A graduate of Milwaukie High School has joined the up-and-coming national act 'I Digress,' a musical mix of acoustic, pop, indie and alternative styles.

That makes guitarist and keyboardist Cody Males, 21, the youngest member of the band that moved to Clackamas after touring Texas, Virginia, Massachusetts, Ohio and New York. The band members living just east of Milwaukie include vocalist/guitarist Ben Strobel, 25, vocalist/bassist Jack Jackman, 29, and drummer Ryan Johnson, 29.

Co-founder Strobel and Jackman broke off from punk/pop alternative and metal bands in 2010. Johnson is the band's third drummer, replacing Robert Carlisle in July 2011, who replaced Kai Lucero in January 2011.

After moving from Hawaii to Oregon, the band hired Males as a second guitarist and keyboardist. They say they instantly knew he was what they were looking for and gave him the position as soon as he auditioned. He has nine years of musical background, ranging from jazz, blues and alternative rock.

'Clackamas is a great base for us since its so close to Portland, but it's more affordable , so, we're more comfortable here,' Males said.

I Digress plays at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, at the Eagle Lodge, 4904 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd., Portland. The show is $6, $3 with a can of food.
