ArtMOB selects new sculptures

by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - 'Apsu the Whimsy Fish' by Jen Ellsworth follows the theme of 'The Element of Nature.'The Milwaukie Arts Committee, also known as the artMOB, has selected the next three sculptures to be showcased in the City Hall Sculpture Garden.

Following the theme of “The Element of Nature,” the committee selected “Apsu the Whimsy Fish” by Jen Ellsworth, “Outside In” by Todd Rau and a yet unnamed piece by Ben Dye.

All three artists have had pieces on display in the City Hall Sculpture Garden before.

The artists will install their works in September, and they will be on display through 2014.

The Sculpture Garden has six pedestals for displaying a rotating collection; half of the works are switched out every year. All the pieces are on loan and for sale.

The Milwaukie Arts Committee was created and appointed by Milwaukie City Council in spring 2008. The 10-person committee quickly adopted the name “artMOB,” an acronym for “Art-Milwaukie on Board.”

The artMOB works to connect artists with resources and to connect the community with art by being inclusive, involving kids and inspiring others to explore new ways of thinking.
