UPDATE: Police find suspect vehicle

Oregon City Police officers have found what they are calling a "vehicle of interest" in Monday's case of a 13-year-old hit-and-run victim.

Police responded on Wednesday at 3:40 p.m. to the Rosewood Terrace Apartments, 235 Pearl St., in Oregon City, on the report that a man was seen wiping down the steering wheel of a two-tone tan Ford Explorer with no license plates.

The tan Ford Explorer has front-end damage, and the driver's window is broken. When police contacted the registered owner of the Explorer, he claimed to have sold the vehicle Aug. 1, police said.

The 13-year-old girl fell victim to an alleged hit-and-run crossing Brighton Avenue near Barclay Avenue in Oregon City.

She was with two friends on Aug. 20 around 3:40 p.m., struck by what witnesses describe as a gold or tan Ford Explorer, Jeep Wrangler or similar SUV with partial plate 769F.

The victim was reportedly thrown and lying in the street unconscious when the occupants of the SUV stopped, got out of the vehicle, looked at the victim in the roadway, and then left in their vehicle without rendering aid or calling for help.

The driver of the SUV was described as an approximately-40 year-old white man, unshaven face and wearing a baseball cap. His female passenger was described as being Hispanic or Asian in appearance, approximately 17 years old with long black hair. No vehicle debris was left at the scene, and it is unknown if any damage to the suspect vehicle.

The victim was transported to OHSU, where she is being treated.
