Car show lines up 'must-see' downtown traffic jam

by: PHOTO BY MIKE WONSER - A portion of the downtown Oregon City car show in 2010 taken from the roof of the Busch Furniture Building.Main Street Oregon City will be bumper-to-bumper with cars, motorcycles, trucks and bicycles of all makes and models on Saturday, Sept. 15.

Drivers from across the state are getting revved up to turn downtown into a parking lot for this third annual signature event that invites families downtown for a free event.

Downtown Oregon City’s $2.5 million streetscape project, which includes new paving from Fifth to 10th streets, will be completed by the time this special event introduces thousands of visitors to bicycles as a new award category this year.

The idea for a downtown car show developed in 2010 based upon a conversation with downtown barber Al Kelley at the Depot Barber Shop on the corner of Seventh Street and Railroad Avenue.

This year, the show will stretch from Sixth Street, past the Arch Bridge to 10th Street with cars parking along Main Street and side streets from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with many drivers showing up as early as 8 a.m. to get a prime spot.
