Davis Graveyard lights up the night

The Davis Graveyard, 8703 S.E. 43rd Ave., Milwaukie, set up its annual display on Oct. 1.

The display will be available for viewing during the day with lights coming on from dusk to 10 p.m. The full effects will run weekend nights dusk to 11 p.m. (10 p.m. on Sunday).

Its open house will be Sunday, Oct. 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Milwaukie High School Pony Prancers dance team will be performing their version of “Thriller” during the day as a fundraiser for the team. They will also perform Halloween night from 5 to 10 p.m.

A volunteer crew of artisans has been working all summer on new props and fixing some old ones. They’ve carved and fabricated a replacement mausoleum this year with a more elaborate structure and numerous new graveyard monuments. The freestanding abbey ruins, which were expanded this year, remain a centerpiece for the display.

Created by homeowners Jeff and Chris Davis, this intricate artistic display is available to the local community and the Portland area at large free of charge. For more information, visit davisgraveyard.com.
